Introduction

Aluminum silicate refractory fiber blankets and felts are the workhorses of industrial thermal insulation. Produced by melting a carefully proportioned mix of alumina and silica raw materials in an electric furnace, then spinning or blowing the melt into amorphous glass-state fibers, these products cover the 900–1430 °C service range that includes the majority of industrial furnace applications worldwide.

Nengcheng produces Al-Si fiber blankets in four standard grades: standard (1260 °C), high-alumina (1350 °C), ultra-high-alumina (1430 °C), and zirconia-enhanced (1500 °C). Blankets are produced by a continuous needling process that bonds the fiber layers without organic binders, while felts are compressed and resin-bonded for added rigidity and machinability.

These products represent the highest-volume segment of the refractory fiber market, and for good reason: they are lightweight, easy to install, thermally efficient, and significantly cheaper than dense refractory alternatives. A 150 mm blanket lining can replace 230 mm of insulating firebrick with lower thermal mass and faster heat-up times — a combination that directly reduces energy bills in intermittent kilns.
